Manual Injuries

Posted: November 27, 2013 by Wyatt Arndt in Uncategorized

In order to have injuries and to test depth, we would do a randomization process. Each injury would last only the push it was assigned to. Here is how I envision it:

Week 2 Injuries:

– Martin Havlat – [Insert team name who owns him]

– Shea Weber – [Insert team name who owns him]

– Chad Larose – [Insert team name who owns him]

– Craig Anderson – [Insert team name who owns him]

– Not Marian Gaborik – [Insert team name who owns him]

The injuries would be listed each week on this website. All you would have to do is check if you’re playing that guy and then verify he will sit that guy when you play him. Worst case scenario you don’t give a shit if your opponent plays an injured guy and you don’t bother checking. Only caveat is if you get called on it you HAVE to sit your injured player, no ifs ands or buts.

This won’t be an aggressive enforcement by me, I won’t be screaming at people if they forget to do it. I will only weigh in if other GM’s tell me that someone refuses to sit a player.

How would we accomplish this?

I would roll/randomize how many injuries would happen, to what team, and to what player.

Due to the nature of random, you could technically end up with a team getting 10 injuries for a push. The odds are ever so slim, but it could happen.

This way is the easiest, cleanest way possible and it tests team depth. All you as a GM have to do is check the webpage (which will be updated every Monday) and see who is injured and then it’s up to you if you want to enforce your opponent adhering to it.

OK guys, here is the deal, we are going to reset the league and start over.

Take a second, breathe, I’ll give you a moment to digest that.

I hope by now that you all know I take my time with decisions and I don’t just bull rush into things (unless it’s perma banning Clarkey), so hopefully you have enough faith in me to at least accept that I am doing what I think is best for the league. Or as HHH would say, is “best for business.”

Here is why I am restarting the league:

1) Injuries are stupid high. Right now there are about 8-10 teams that don’t have injuries. We have only played 3-7 games of the season, a season in which people tried NOT to hit anyone while rosters got figured out, yet players are dropping like flies.

I like injuries as a concept. I like teams having their depth pushed and it makes picking up lower players and finding bargain players a real GM skill that can shine through when injuries ravage your team. But there is something to be said about actually getting to play with your stars on your team instead of a team full of scrubs. Right now the injuries are just way too out of whack and it’s not even close to realistic.

In a perfect world I would crank fatigue so people would have to play their 3rd and 4th lines so at least depth would be tested a bit (I am the fatigue master after all) but aside from my sneaky magical fatigue ways, I have no actual way of setting fatigue in the league, so we can’t even do that.

Another reason injuries will be turned off is because hitting is super over powered in this years game, which will probably lead to a ton of injuries, which will lead to a ton of people bitching and screaming. I enjoy some good LOBHEAT as much as the next guy, but when an entire league is yelling and screaming and dragging me into it, it won’t be a good scene.

Hell, at this point I would be up for an “Injury draw” every week, where we pull 5 teams from a hat and then pull out 5 lengths of time, then pull out a name from the team and assign injuries. I would be all over this, but people might not want to bother, but I am putting it out there. Would bring injuries into the league and would at least let us control them to an extent.

The idea being of course you would healthy scratch your player until his “injury” was over. I would post the weekly injuries on here so it’s up to you to see if your opponent does it. I wouldn’t enforce it too harshly, it would be on you guys, but might be a fun way of making it work.

– The tuners are fucked. The tuners I tested when I chose hardcore sim settings have seen been updated and are now a pile of garbage. I beat the CPU on Superstar simply by aiming top corner and 40% of my shots went in. I beat CBJ comp 10-1, with a 62 ov guy sniping a cross body top corner shot. Short side goals are even easier now, and picking far corner can be done from anywhere in the zone. This is honestly how the non hardcore sim sliders worked, so I am confused as to why they fucked up hardcore sim so bad.

Keep in mind that original Hardcore Sim sliders lowers the shot accuracy dramatically, so it’s next to impossible (in the small sample size of games I played) to keep picking top corner even with your stars, but I’d rather have a 3-2 league than an 8-7 league. Again, this league was meant to be played more like real NHL hockey and less like “Do anything to win” video game hockey, so I want to restart the league under old sliders.

Again, I would change them now, but I can’t seem to find a way to do it.

Now I know doing all the trades was a huge bitch, and we all need to work together to get up and running. It should be much smoother once my internet is fixed (Supposedly Friday) and with the App, nobody should have any excuse why they can’t accept any trades. I will annoy the shit out of anyone who holds up trades, so if you have any issues reaching a GM, please let me know. We do all have to work together on this one.

Seriously, logging onto your ap on the phone should make this a breeze, so it shouldn’t be as bad as it may look. Putting through trades takes me no time at all, so we shouldn’t run into any injuries.

OK, there is my update. Restarting the league tonight under same name, please look and sign up for the league after 10pm tonight.

Hey all,

For those who know, I run the LOBNHL League which had a very successful run in NHL 13 and is now starting up again in NHL 14. It’s a league that is run pretty seriously and I do the best to maintain the integrity of that league at all times. It is for committed GM’s only, as it requires commitment from everyone to make it work.

LOBNHL Lite will serve as a “laid back league” where people can join, play and have fun, but it won’t be as controlled as LOBNHL is (which some may prefer.)

The basic rules are:

– Button push (schedule advance) happens once a week, on Monday nights.

– No trade rejections by the commish (unless it’s an obvious case of someone trading their entire team to someone else before quitting)

– No arguing, no fighting, no yelling

– No injuries turned on

– NHL salary cap is in place

– Waivers are in place

Basically it’s supposed to be a relaxed league where if you can’t play your games that week, don’t worry about it, we will just sim the game. If your opponent can’t play you that week? Don’t worry about it, just ask to play his computer or wait for the sim.

Obviously if someone plays no games at all, and people bring it to my attention, I will remove the person from the league. Playing some games should occur otherwise what’s the point of being in the league.

So if you’re looking for a relaxed league and a chance to have some fun playing NHL 14, sign up here:

If you have been waiting to get into the big leagues of LOBNHL, this is a good place to get started because replacement GM’s will most likely be taken from this league if anyone quits LOBNHL, should you so desire.

Good luck and have fun!

The Tomas Hertl Affair

Posted: November 14, 2013 by Wyatt Arndt in Uncategorized

So Tomas Hertl has become a high profile situation due to his jump in stats. When we started with the NHL 14 rosters he was a lowly 61OV prospect (3.5 stars? Maybe 4?) but then Hertl went and Hertl’d in the NHL and now all of a sudden he is a potential future franchise player at 80 ov, 4.5 star prospect. The question then becomes, does he remain Sharks property, as he went undrafted and now just resides on the Sharks roster, unloved and unwanted oh so many months ago?

My main line of thinking of this consists of the following:

– How do I deal with the situation so it is in line with the 50% league reset we did?

– How do I deal with this in a fair and consistent manner with the majority of League decisions that have been made?

– How do I make sure Clarkey is still dead to the world?

I have always maintained that I didn’t want a teams farm team to carry over completely with a team because that alone would be unfair as Florida and other high tier teams would all of a sudden have a huge edge over franchaises that had awful prospects. It seemed unfair to have someone saddled with a crap bag full of crappy prospects simply because EA was too lazy to do a complete randomization of the entire roster of an organization.

In that regards, I feel the Prospect Dispersal Draft did a good job of spreading the wealth around by at least ensuring that each team got a 4 star prospect, while at the same time taking away prospects from deeper teams who had a lot to give (they had multiple players taken from them in the Prospect Dispersal Draft), so in that regards, I feel enough has been done to ensure the prospect system in LOB has evened out somewhat.

The question then moves to the draft itself, in which several arguments could be put forward that Hertl would have been the number one pick in the draft, which would have changed a lot of decisions. So then do we make Hertl a free agent now? Do we simply have him assigned to a team randomly? Is it fair to just have Hertl appear on the Sharks roster?

In the end, I choose to leave Hertl on the Sharks roster. I do this because of the following two reasons (more point form, yay!)

– Everyone had a chance to draft Hertl, both in the Draft Pick lotto and the Dispersal Draft. Had someone chosen him, and then he jumped to 80 ov, I wouldn’t have given him back to the Sharks, so I probably shouldn’t do that here. Due to the fact the prospects themselves were evened out, I don’t feel the need to punish a team for getting lucky with one prospect. I drafted Nichuskin who wasn’t in the game yet not knowing what his OV would be and I lucked out and he was 77ov. Chicago drafted Trouba and he ended up 78 ov. Both of us drafted guys based on our hopes he would jump to a higher OV, so had someone read up on Hertl and taken a chance on him, they should be rewarded for it. The fact nobody did doesn’t mean I want to punish San Jose for that fact. Fact is, we all could have drafted Hertl and we didn’t.

– I don’t want to retroactively change things due to overall player ratings changing. We have already had several deaths in LOBNHL 14, as players going to Switzerland were swiftly executed in our league. Other players had their OV’s drop by a fair margin. Others had theirs jump by a large margin. If I make a decision right now based on a large OV jump or drop, then it means I would have requests coming in for other changes, and I would have to acknowledge them due to the precedent I had set.

So that being said, the Sharks keep Hertl and no other actions will be taken. The commish has spoken!
